Lestat looks like a child by the shoreline, picking at rocks and sticks and poking at the mud. When he stands he casually and without a thought to his clean clothes - and very uncharacteristically - brushes his muddy hand on his pants.
"Baby?" Louis asks. "Whatcha got there?"
Lestat freezes like a deer in the headlights, like he actually forgot himself and only now that Louis has spoken does he remember where he is, who he's with.

Summary
Lestat has thought about his death numerous times over the years.
He has entertained the idea of drowning himself in the bath after yet another day of being ignored when all he wants is someone to love him, or taking the flintlock pistol his mother gifted him when he turned twenty-one to his mouth and pulling the trigger when nobody is home; he liked to think someone would be sad when they found his body, and cry over him with an immense amount of grief. Often times he wonders how long he would last if he finally just laid down in a fight and let his brothers take their fists to him for as long and as hard as they'd like. Or what would happen if he provoked his father enough at the dinner table one night. His silver steak knife to the throat, maybe?
