“I wrote you a line,” he says one night, leaning against the side of the tour bus and lifting his cigarette to his lips. Daisy stares down at her own, clipped between her fingers to avoid looking too closely at his mouth.
She knows Billy noticed how unmoored she’d become, because the shithead notices everything these days from how she takes her coffee to when she forgets to replace the toilet paper roll. She thinks he was waiting, waiting until she wasn’t so adrift to ask her to make something with him again. It’s considerate, but annoys her on principal.
Still. He wrote her a line. Daisy considers this with a small smile.
