Though it wasn’t always that way; once upon a time human’s would scour the surrounding forest in packs just for a glimpse of her waters. They’d drain the lake dry of its healing properties if they could.

Niki, a water spirit, has been alone for a long time. She tells herself she’s used to it, but when she gets an unexpected visitor who needs more help than he leads on, she realizes maybe she needs a friend just as much as he does.

He tucked his limbs closer to himself and pressed a hand to his chest, hoping she couldn’t hear the rhythm of it through the thin bedroom walls. Attempting to hold his breath as he braced for the banging against the wood that he knew was soon to come. It was funny how no matter how small he felt on days like these, he’d always find himself wishing he could shrink.
