Summary
To change, Ayaka Iwamoto first had to break.
Before defeating any millenary demon and before breaking any cycle of pain, before setting demons and humans free from their chains and bringing happiness, Ayaka first has to break the stone and the snow around her that has taken years to build and that has only brought her misery.
For Spring to come, Winter must leave.
To prevent Tanjirou Kamado from burning down on his own fire, Ayaka will have to burn down alongside him.
It's a sacrifice she's willing to make. Because Ayaka hates kind people and because all kind people are the same. And she won't allow Tanjirou to go down the path all kind people choose.

“Um…” Aya goes silent. “I don’t think I’m ready to… talk about that, right now.”
“Of course,” Fueguchi immediately counters. “Take it all at your own pace, this is for your good, and I’ll never force you to talk about anything you don’t want to talk about.”
‘Anything I don’t want to talk about,’ Aya thinks. There are things she wants to say, things she’d rather not think about but that need to be bled. She’s dying to spill them, but also dying not to.
Aya thinks about the ocean.

The first thing that came to mind when thinking about Ayaka Iwamoto was freezing fingers and harsh winds, on the path up a snowy mountain you would only die on.
And that was probably the most accurate depiction one could have of her, because there wasn't an ounce of warmth to expect from her, as she's covered in snow and a great winter that's lasted for too long.
Her eyes more powerful than most only held a dark abyss, the fire of kindness long extinguished.
But when Tanjirou Kamado sets foot on the mountain that is Ayaka Iwamoto, with the fire god by his side to light his way, she must admit that a bit of warmth felt good.
Because a mountain could manifest a snowy storm just like it could hold the most beautiful of flowers.
And her parents hadn't named her "colour flower" without reason.

"What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" The unstoppable force stops, and the immovable object moves, and that's how you get a stoic setter and a hot headed ace to play together in the court.
Kanao doesn't find voleyball fun, it comes easy to her, she tosses and the ball reaches where it needs to reach, and that's enough for her to stick playing it throughout all of middle school, an yet it doesn't erase the fact that there's no feeling that courses through her when she does, and that's what she had believed would have happened in high school too, if not for the fact that it's not what ends up happening.
However, she finds in her new team mate a spark that she can't ignore, a spark she wishes to have. Now she wants to toss for her and see that spark as many times as she can, because Ayaka is a treasure that's been put on her way that she cannot let go.
And maybe, Kanao will grow to love voleyball just as much as her team mates.
And in between dates that aren’t dates, saturday morning practices, a horrible fashion taste and coffee shops, maybe she'll have fun in the end.
