“Lord Capon.” Bartosch called after him. He turned. “If you ever find yourself in Prague and in need of a friend, find me.”

“You have my thanks,” said Hans. “But don’t bet on it.” He turned his heel as Bartosch grinned.

    Summary

It wasn’t as though Henry were unfamiliar with strange desires, given everything they were, everything they’d done. But Hans’ cravings had taken a twisted shape, one altogether frightening. Henry was sweet, kind, above all gentle, and it was so very easy to love his gentleness.

But what Hans wanted was not gentle.

Pre-Trial of the Seven - Daeron breaks in the green boy

“I beg your pardon for asking,” said Daeron, and gathered up one of those great hands where it hung clenched at Duncan’s side, opening the fist by degrees until that broad rough paw lay in his own. “But it would be twice as monstrous, I think, to let a man die tomorrow without ever knowing what it is to be touched kindly.”

"My lord," said Galehaut, "I would do more for you than you would believe, and I have already begun."

Hans falls in love, finds a book, and tries to figure out how to avoid losing his best friend. It would be easier if he had anything at all to offer Henry, or if sodomy were not the sin of which men do not speak.

It contained a stack of letters penned undoubtedly by Father’s hand.
All started with: “My dearest, Henry”

    ~***~
