Summary
I'm just going to stash this here so it won't languish on the Wayback Machine. This is what you get (or at least, this is what my professor got) when your 20th-century literary theory class includes an agile-minded but somewhat dilettantish student with a taste for parody. The midterm assignment was to gather a certain number of theorists from a provided list and write a script for them in a roundtable discussion of the construct of meaning. This...is not that.

Update 29 May 2019: Kept on record as an early sketch for a published work, to preserve comments and bookmarks.

Premise: A military academy in an embattled nation has a reputation for turning out brilliant officers whose skill in fighting is exceeded only by their devotion to the law of courtesy. But two of its elite students begin to uncover secrets that may destroy its beloved founder and threaten the academy itself. Soon they find themselves drawn not only into the looming threat of scandal, but into the overwhelming prospect of war, which will put their skill, their courtesy, and their friendship to the ultimate test.

[Miles said:] "...Hamlet gets a tip-off that his old man was murdered by the uncle. Unfortunately, he can't tell if his informant is telling truth or lies. So he spends the next five acts blundering around getting nearly the whole cast killed while he dithers."
"That was stupid," said Nikki scornfully, uncoiling altogether. "Why didn't he just use fast-penta?"
"Hadn't been invented yet, alas. Or it would have been a much shorter play."
