Summary
Max leans forwards, grabs onto the bottom of the wall separating the two of them, and propels herself into Mike’s stall, not bothering to sit up once she’s there. Instead, she opts for having her body sprawl across the gross bathroom tile, letting her messy and mostly undone braids fall out around her. She presses the toes of her Vans to the wall, and her knees are bent, but her arms are both spread out. It’s nice, she thinks. To melt into the ground after the day she’s had.
Mike wrinkles his nose. “This floor’s disgusting,” he says, judgmental as ever, and Max rolls her eyes. “I’m already covered in blood and sweat and puke, it’s fine. Answer my question, Wheeler. Fib.”
Max and Mike get drugged by Russians, have a conversation in a bathroom, and watch Back to the Future. In no particular order.

Summary
Sometimes, he wonders why it had to happen on his birthday. Why he couldn't have waited to ask about his mother for just another day, or week, or month. Why his dad hadn't stopped to read the calendar, hadn't offered him the simplest gift of not getting wasted on his son's birthday.
And sometimes, he wonders why he's the one that has to deal with this; why is he the one to shoulder the pain of multiple people, to cry over a lost life that isn't even gone yet? He'll never know, and that's why he keeps it to himself. He doesn't complain. He just thinks.
