He was searching his pockets for a phone he knew he wasn’t carrying when, behind him, a dark figure emerged. Nico had to very carefully stop himself from drawing his sword, but he kept a hand on the hilt. He turned around. The dark figure was a man who was probably double Nico’s size, not in height (although he did have like at least a foot on Nico) but in sheer bulk. He was wearing an entire three-piece suit, admittedly very sloppily, and that was weird enough on its own; they were in the middle of nowhere. But there was also something strange about him—some kind of dissonance between what Nico was seeing and what he felt. The stranger didn’t seem to notice Nico until his head turned, and they locked eyes.

One day Ayan’s touch was a comfortable daily presence and the other electricity ran through Akk’s veins every time he remotely brushed his skin. A hand on his shoulder here, an arm on his back there, a friendly push once in a while and that habit of his to rest his thighs on Akk’s lap when they were sitting together on the couch.
