Your words were pathetic, seeping in the fake people-pleasing tone that Homelander hated from his fans. Still, you somehow made them sound believable. Homelander hated liars, he would’ve assumed this entire facade was entirely a lie if it weren’t for that your words sounded so real. Was it possible that you could enjoy catering to vapid cesspools of human filth by telling them you loved them?
The weakness that darted around his psyche, the thing that hid from the way he wanted to strangle it awoke hopeful and whimpering with the idea that you weren’t playing pretend. Not all the way at least.
