Will’s expression smoothes out then, and he’s looking at Mike in consideration, like he sees him in all the ways Mike does not want to be seen.
“You were jealous,” Will offers it like it’s a fact, simple as that, and Mike nearly doubles over with the shock of it, an immediate blow to whatever unbothered facade he was attempting to put on for Will.
“Was not,” but his voice is so weak that he nearly collapses in embarrassment, an omission of guilt clear as day.
Mike is in love with Will. He tries very hard to love him quietly.

Robin places her hands on his shoulder, and stares him down, all seriousness.
“Look…I told you what I did in the tunnels because whether or not Mike likes you back, he’s still your best friend. He’s important to you. Which is good! It’s great! You’ll have him no matter what, right? But—and you gotta listen to me, Byers—you need to put yourself first, okay? You don’t need him to like you to be okay with who you are. You just are. Don’t ever let a stupid boy make you feel otherwise.”
“Mike’s not stupid,” Will says, because even though he thinks so sometimes, Robin doesn’t know him like that.
Robin raises an eyebrow, “Whatever you say, lover boy.”
OR: Robin and Will talk about coming out and maybe-kind-of-sorta first loves.
