Hubert spared a quick glance down at his stomach, willing their child to not make tomorrow its birthday. He watched his hand disappear over his stomach before coming back up, repeating the motion over and over again. It wasn’t that calming this time, yet that seemed to be a common occurrence as of late. Each day he was inching closer and closer to his supposed due date, but everyone knew that those were hardly accurate.
He held his breath as he waited for something to happen, but the only noise that came was the low rumble of thunder. That was better than any alternative, but the long, drawn out breath that escaped his barely parted lips didn’t push out the anxieties as well.
He wasn’t ready. He did everything he was told that could be done for a first time parent, and yet, it didn’t feel like enough.
