Summary
As a teenager, like any good goth with not exactly immaculate mental health, Katya had spent a lot of time thinking about death. She decided early on she didn’t believe in the hooded skeleton with the scythe. Her Catholic upbringing left her with an inescapable fear of and fascination with hell, first leaving her terrified that she would end up there, and later pushing her to make sure she would. If it was real. Which it probably wasn’t.
None of her musings had included a six foot tall woman dressed head to toe in Barbie pink, who keeps pushing her blonde hair behind her ears with an increasingly concerned expression on her face.
(In which Katya dies. It's not so bad; Death is her type.)

Summary
She didn’t even know why she had taken this job; or why any of them did. They weren’t exactly in love with the idea of staying in decrepit old cabins, spending their long-awaited summer in the middle of the woods trying to repair the place, and then having to take care of a bunch of snotty kids. As Trixie glazed over the car, she didn’t exactly see anyone that fit the camp counselor archetype of a pudgy, smiling girl with acne that sang camp songs in a nasally voice. All she saw were a bunch of high school grads looking for a quick buck, and maybe a secluded spot to have sex.

Summary
“I know who you are, all right?” Trixie says. He shifts his balance. Knife, lyre, sachet of holy herbs, wineskin. He marks them mentally on his body, makes a sundial of himself, tells time by the tools he carries.
Katya strokes the bird’s tiny head. “Oooh.” He’s mocking him, his eyes bright with laughter. Trixie knows calm is the deadliest weapon in his arsenal, but it’s one of the few he hasn’t mastered.
“Yeah,” he goes on, “and your whole thing isn’t gonna work on me.”
“Oooooh!” He waggles his fingers in the air. “Not my whole thing!”
Trixie's a champion on an endless tour of the sea. Katya's a witch living on an enchanted island. The rest is (ancient Greek) history.
