when oikawa tooru tries to define himself, the only word he can come up with these days is "salaryman." and he’s fine with that. really. at his grand age of 28, a stable job that puts money towards his savings is as much as he can ask for.
he doesn’t need anything more, and he definitely doesn’t need to think about what else he could’ve been. after all, it doesn’t help much.

but maybe he needed this, needed someone to look at him with stars in their eyes, just once, just one more time.

Akaashi is as quick off the mark as he remembers – Tetsurou wishes he could crack him open a little and spill something genuine, but Akaashi can be as stubborn as all hell when he wants. Tetsurou’s convinced that there has to be a way in up close, beyond the bluster and acerbity. He just needs a little bit of give. He suspects it’s going to be slow going.
Kuroo toes the line, Akaashi sacrifices his sanity, and neither of them is as infallible as they once might have thought.
