Summary
The leader of the isolated Lynian Retreat by the south of the Ambalan forests, Father Landor, is by no means a believer of misty scrooms and hagsfiends from times long since past—But when a pair of high profile owls, battered and on the edge of death, land in the vicinity of his retreat with unowlish wails travelling through the air growing dimmer and dimmer, his gizzard flips upside down with disbelief and confusion talon in talon.
The downed owls speak of a terrible sight—a pale vulture with bright red eyes slicing through feathers and flesh with glee and mirth. Landor himself and the few other members of his retreat soon fall victim to the talons of an absent Colonel, the many generals of Ambala and the large creatures that now roam the trees with only one objective: to capture the former heir and his only other surviving friend in the retreat.

Summary
Seventy five years have passed since the War of the Ember. Summary
Years after the Battle of the Short Light and Long Night, Theo struggles to grapple with his role in the development of the owl world. His finest —or in his eyes most despicable— creation is abundant throughout the kingdoms, every owl wants a pair of battle claws. As a gizzard resister, how is he to live with the weight of thousands of deaths on his shoulders?
As it often goes, yet another owl ends up wounded by his creation. But this time, things end up a going a bit differently than he would have ever expected when he comes up with a brilliant project, putting his skills to good use.
(This fic is a lengthened adaptation of the short story revolving around Theo and Ivar in ''A Guide Book to the Great Tree.'' Reading of the short story is not required in order to read and understand this fic, but encouraged. Spoilers for the Legends Trilogy, obviously.)
