Summary
Mike and Will have been at each other's throats all of a sudden.
Challenging each other out loud, whispers and sneaky shoves. The way their insults fly back and forth could be heard by anyone, but if they looked closer, they would catch the playful sparkle in their eyes, the subtle smiles that they try to hide between heated exchanges. It’s their little secret.
tldr; the pair is “bickering”, not realizing they’re flirting

Summary
Will Byers has spent most of his life on the sidelines.
Ever since he and his twin sister, Jane, presented as a rare male omega and female alpha, Will has lived his days inside a carefully crafted glass prison. In search of better medical care and more open-minded values, Joyce and Jim—their mother and stepfather—moved the entire family to Lenora, California.
Without the familiar bounds of Hawkins and the pack he and Jane grew up with, Will has been drifting. Over the years, the distance between him and his old friends has grown wider and wider, as he continues to struggle with his identity in a world that holds a stubborn, one-sided view of omegas.
With that struggle comes an unfortunate reality: even after four long years of dating, Will still can’t stop pining after his sister’s boyfriend—his childhood best friend—Mike Wheeler.
By now, Will should be used to the feeling of being second best. He isn’t.
When his frustration at feeling stuck in one place finally reaches its breaking point, he decides it’s time to give up and move on.In response, something stirs.
Fanfic title inspired by Second Best by The Last Dinner Party.

Summary
"But he didn't act like this last time when..." Max's voice trailed off. Even she couldn't say it out loud.
Last time when El disappeared. Last time when El sacrificed herself. Last time when El died right in front of them.
"Last time was different," Lucas cut in.
"Yeah," Will nodded thoughtfully, "We were younger. And they weren't dating yet, of course Mike reacted differently."
"No," Lucas snorted, "that's not it. He was just... kind of busy."
"With what?"
"You."
Or: After the final battle, Mike starts acting strange and stops being a proper alpha of their small but fucked-up pack, so the Party decides to push him where his instincts have always been sharpest — taking care of Will.
Or: Will is the first male omega in Hawkins in 20 years, and despite the Upside Down and all the horrors now finally over, he can't find HIS place in this new world where he's kinda taken El's place.

Summary
Five times everyone else noticed. One time they finally did.
Mike Wheeler and Will Byers have been best friends forever. They fight monsters, solve mysteries, and spend more time together than either of them probably realizes. From sleepy afternoons on the couch to accidental touches and quiet mornings, everyone around them has been keeping track.
Nancy notices first. Then Robin, Max, Lucas, and Dustin. Each of them sees what Mike and Will don’t: the way they lean on each other, the way they care, the little moments that mean everything.
And finally, maybe too late, maybe just in time, Mike and Will realize it too.
