Summary
Geto turns, curling his lips up in a pleasant smile, the same smile he uses on the higher-ups when he tires of listening to them and just wants to shut them up quicker. For a split second, between one breath and the next, he considers giving in to it all. Slaughtering the entire village. Watching them scream at the hands of curses they can’t see, suffer from the same agony they put these small girls through. There’s a hot lick of shame in his stomach at the thought of it, as he seriously considers it, as he realizes that he’d enjoy it.
But when he exhales, it’s a soft “Would you please excuse me for a moment?” that comes out of his mouth instead. He has the distinct impression, as he pulls his phone out of his pocket, that he’s made a choice here, created a schism of some sort, that there was a binary here and that he’s sent himself careening down one of two paths. All he can do is hope that he’s fallen on the right side of it. Whatever the ‘right’ side even means anymore.
