While I loved the interpretation of the bundling scene in the series, I still have a real soft spot for the original scene as it was written in the book. I especially wanted to explore it from Matthew’s perspective given he makes, to a modern reader, some pretty... seemingly odd decisions, so here it is - my humble attempt at pulling together all of the threads of his reasoning as it was laid out in the books and series. You’ll notice I did refer to a couple of series specific scenes too. I couldn’t help it! It is a liiiittle smuttier than the original. I figured being from Matthew’s perspective makes that permissible ;) With all due credit and respect to Deborah Harkness for her phenomenal original work. Despite my deep and abiding love for the books, I only fully appreciated how nuanced, witty and sexy the original is when exploring this scene from an opposing lens. Hope you enjoy! -
