“Yeah! Think of it as a team bonding exercise. No one has to know, not that it goes against any rules or anything.” Brophy added that last part hastily.
Ilya mulled over the idea in his head for a bit. Not that Ilya should care, but he noted that maybe their captain wouldn’t be too happy about such an excursion. Shane never did anything remotely indecent in public. He had told Ilya he barely even got drunk when he won the Stanley Cup. Always the role model. But Shane wasn’t there. Better yet, if Shane came with Rose Landry there was no way he would come to a strip club and Ilya could avoid him for another night longer. If he made it through the weekend without seeing him, they would only see each other on the ice. They were good at pretending there.

Shane’s heart lurched. When did Rozanov get a Snapchat? Not that it mattered anyways, they already texted too much than was appropriate for their current situation. During the season they’d text each other to make plans to fuck, and then they would promptly go back to pretending like that was all this was for them. And in the summers they would exchange messages baiting one another about hockey. Sure, sometimes they would flirt. But it didn’t mean anything, it was just another way to rile each other up. Texting felt impersonal enough that Shane had entertained years of correspondence with Lily during the off season, just another way to pass the time. But as of late, he found himself wanting more.
