Tell me how to love you, Artemy thinks. Stakh looks at him, unreadable as always, and there is no answer, only an echo: tell me how to love you.
(The play ends and the actors bleed into the characters. Artemy attempts to nurture life on a soil sodden by death. Reluctantly, Stakh lends a hand.)
