"Are you fucking serious?"
"Yes."They all look at James, who has continued the conversation without so much as a blink. ‘Oh,’ thinks Peter, ‘he already knew.’
‘Oh,’ thinks Sirius, ‘he’s totally fine with it.’
'Oh,’ thinks Lily, 'he did NOT catch that at ALL.’
'Oh,’ thinks Remus, 'THIS will be hysterical.’And so, Remus fucks with him. Sirius kisses Remus on the cheek when he leaves the breakfast table for his class and when James gives him an odd look and gets up and joins him, Remus shoots him a doleful, sad look… With only the tiniest hesitation and self conscious glance around, James hikes up his bag and pecks his friend on the cheek, because Remus was family, by God, and if it made him feel appreciated, he would do it.
Peter almost chokes on his drink and James turns and stares at him pointedly over his glasses–in a look lifted from a certain severe, Animagus professor–-until Peter, red faced from coughing, supressed laughter and embarrassment, leans down and does the same.It takes James walking in on them actually making out, Sirius’ hand up Remus’ shirt for his brain to start whirring again and when it clicked, all he did was close the door and yell through, “I am NOT doing that.“
They continue to kiss Remus goodbye at breakfast.

“But Moony, you must know that this is a serious matter, and we’re dealing with serious feelings here… he says in one breath without breaking eye-contact.
“Okay...” Remus blinks a couple of times. “That’s all very well, but I can’t really say anything about that, now can I, if you won’t tell me who it is?”
James, still right in front of Remus, practically shouts in his face. “It’s serious!”
“Yes, Prongs, you’ve said that multiple times already,” Remus says exasperated. “But that doesn’t do much good when I don’t know who it is!”
Bemused, Remus watches as James jumps up, throws his hands in the air and storms out of the dorm in a huff. Really, that boy can be so peculiar.
“Oi, Pads.”
“Wotcher, Prongs.”
“D’you remember telling me you were worried about sitting next to Moony in class too often, and you thought he might catch on to your crush?”
“...yes?”
“And I said you could probably shout it in his face, and he still wouldn’t notice?”
“Prongs... What did you do?”
“Well...”“Number Three,” Lily continues. “Giving you loads of compliments.”
Remus crosses his arms over his chest. “He only says he likes my sweaters to have an excuse to feel how soft they are!”
“Number Four,” Lily says pointedly, while looking at Remus unwaveringly. “Making up excuses to touch you.”
Remus huffs, and looks away.Mary has yet to stop laughing. “Five minutes! Every point, in five minutes! We thought you’d need a week, but no! Merlin, the boy is so gone for you.”
Remus gives Lily a look. “Why is she here?”Mary nods. “I want to see Padfoony happen.”
So, the question is, Remus Lupin, are you willing to take a very small risk if the prize is-”
“Sticking your tongue down Sirius Black’s throat!” Mary finishes.
“I was going to say date the man of your dreams, but yeah,” Lily shrugs.Remus gives himself a shake. “Why are we talking about Mary?”
“You brought her up!”
“Because Mary wants me to date you!” Remus exclaims, before he can think about it.
Sirius’ eyes flash with anger. “Well, I don’t give a rat’s arse about what she wants!”
“So you don’t want to date me,” Remus states, his voice turning cold.
“Not as a favour to Mary bloody McDonald,” Sirius hisses.
“It’s not because Mary wants me to date you!” Remus shouts.
“Then why?”
“Because I want me to date you!”
“Fine!” Sirius exclaims. “Go out with me, then!”
“Oh no, you don’t!” Remus points an accusing finger in Sirius’ direction. “I gathered all my courage to ask you on a date, so don’t go switching it around on me and ask me out instead!”
Sirius throws his hands up in the air. “Alright! Bloody ask me out, then!”
“I bloody will!”
“Go ahead!”
“Will you go out with me this weekend?” Remus asks heatedly.
“Yes, I do!” Sirius bites back.
“Okay, great!”
“Great!”
Both boys storm off in the opposite direction.
“What...” Lily clears her throat. “What was that?”
“I...” James blinks uncertainly and runs a hand through his hear. “I think they’ve got a date?”Suddenly, Remus hears his curtains rustle, and feels a dip in his bed. He pushes himself up on his elbows to see Sirius sitting cross-legged at the foot of his bed…
Sirius smiles sheepishly. “Hi.”
“Hi.”
“So,” Sirius says, subconsciously tugging at his braid. “Do we happen to have a date tomorrow, or did I imagine that?”“Well, Prongs said I actually had to take it up another notch. He said you were so oblivious that he shouted in your face that I fancy you, and you still didn’t catch on.” Sirus rolls his eyes. “Greatly exaggerating, as he does, of course.”
Remus doesn’t reply, not feeling like letting Sirius know James wasn’t exaggerating by much. Or, well, at all.“What about you? If you forget about that whole ‘you deserve better than me’-nonsense, do you actually want to date me?”
“Date you?” Remus exclaims. “Sirius, I want to marry you!”
This time, it’s Sirius’ turn to blink.
“That is...” Remus mumbles, awkwardly running a hand through his hair. “I don’t mean... Not like tomorrow or something...”
A bright smile appears on Sirius’ face. “My, my, Mr Lupin,” he says teasingly. “That’s rather forward of you. If you want to put a ring on this finger, you’re going to have to make me your boyfriend first.”“According to my sources,” she says, looking like the cat that got the cream. “Padfoony has been spotted snogging outside of Tomes and Scrolls!”
Lily lets out a delighted shriek and, as a spur of the moment thing, flings her arms around James’ neck.
Mary smirks. Operation Padfoony has been a roaring success. Time to get Operation Lames on the way. -

Lastly, I'll check his temperature, then you’re off."
James only nods proudly, already thinking of the prize money, absolutely certain that they're going to win when he watches the man lift up Padfoot’s tail and move a small metal stick towards-
Oh.
Padfoot freezes, eyes wide.
James’ mouth hangs open like he wants to say something but isn't quite sure what…
"And you’re good to go. You may take a seat over by the other contestants." The inspector smiles at him and points back to the seating area before scribbling something down on his notepad.
James lets go of a breath he didn’t know he was holding. "O-okay, thanks." He awkwardly turns to leave when he realises that Padfoot isn't following. He is still just frozen where he was on the table a moment ago.
"Come on Padfoot. Padfoot." He calls. In the end, he has to grab Padfoot around the torso and lift him off the table before he snaps back to reality and follows James to the seats provided for the contestants."They um- they took Sirius’ temperature." He mutters.
It takes a moment for realization as to what that means to take hold but when it does, Remus' eyes go wide before he promptly bursts into hysterics once again."Oh come on, Sirius. I mean it's not like it's the first time-" Remus starts but Sirius cuts him off before he can finish.
"REMUS!"
"Sorry, sorry okay, shit. Sorry."
James looks at Remus confused, not following. Remus doesn’t follow up, instead, he only tucks in his lips, wishing he could take back the words he just said.
"Oh. oh Godric, I did not wanna know that.'' James makes a face. Sirius blushes and turns to face the floor while Remus bursts out laughing a third time, keeling over and holding his stomach.Peter enters the dorm and sees the trophy. “You won a dog show?” He asks, confused.
“Yes, funny story that.” Remus begins, because of course he does. -

Summary
“All I know is I want—” Remus shuts his mouth in a panic. Gulps. Dry mouth. Palpitations. Sweaty palms.
Sirius tilts his head. “What? What do you want?” Gray eyes. Collarbones. Body heat.
“Nothing,” Remus' eyes shift to Sirius’ lips and then quickly back to smoky eyes, “it doesn’t matter.”
“Remus,” Sirius drawls, exasperated. He steps forward and Remus steps back colliding into the wall behind him. Sirius is smirking up at him. And fuck Remus is staring at his lips again.

She’s pretty, Remus had thought bitterly. And then Emmeline leaned forward, grabbed the bottle out of Sirius’ hand, ran a hand through Sirius’ curls, and tilted her head up so that their lips met. Remus instantly sat up straight, he tasted the iron tang of blood from where he had bitten the inside of his cheek, but he didn’t dare look away. And then Sirius’ eyes were open as his lips slid over Emmeline’s. And his eyes were on Remus.
And this —whatever this was— was dangerous. The lack of letters from Sirius was almost a relief. But then, two weeks before the start of term, Sirius sent him a letter telling him that he had left Grimmauld Place and was now living with the Potters. And Remus felt horrible, because here he was worrying about having to face his best friend come September 1st, while Sirius had been going through absolute hell.
But this year Sirius shows up with curly, unruly hair that reaches his shoulders, big black leather boots, a leather jacket to match, and a smile to rival the sun. Remus is blinded by him. And everything Remus had been trying to suppress all summer goes down the drain. All of his thoughts are of Gryffindor parties and kissing and the astronomy tower.
In the morning, when Sirius wraps his fingers around Remus’ wrist and tugs him to the Great Hall for breakfast, Remus lets him. Because avoiding Sirius was an impossible plan —for more reasons than one— and because Sirius is his best friend and he brought him back food for dinner because he was thinking about him and was worried about him and meanwhile Remus had been trying to forget about Sirius and now Remus feels guilty. So he lets Sirius tug him to breakfast, but he avoids eye contact.
His eyes catch Sirius, who is pulling up his hair into a bun at the top of his head. Remus’ eyes travel over Sirius’ collarbone and up his exposed neck and Merlin. He looks back down at his eggs.
Across the table from him, Sirius stretches, his ankle brushing the bottom of Remus’ leg. Remus jumps up from the table, nearly toppling his cup of tea in his wake. Sirius looks up at him, eyes wide.
“I gotta go,” Remus croaks. They’re so close. Sirius curls a finger through Remus’ belt loop and gently tugs. Remus tentatively chances a glance up. Gray eyes burn into him so intense that Remus dry swallows, gasping for air.
“Remus, what do you want?”“Tell me what you want, Remus.”
“No.”
“Fine,” Sirius fingers grasp Remus’ tie and pulls it down so that their faces are inches apart, “then show me,” he whispers.Sirius pulls away. His lips red and raw and swollen and— smirking. “Now, was that so hard, Remus?”
“Prick,” Remus says, turning them and pinning Sirius against the wall.
Sirius smiles up at him. “For how long?”
“Huh?” Remus says, staring at his lips unabashedly. Sirius, Sirius, Sirius.
“Since the Gryffindor party? Top of the astronomy tower?”
“No. Merlin, no. Longer. Fourth year.”
“Third year,” Sirius says, pointing to himself with a pompous, victorious grin that Remus wants to wipe off. Kiss off .
“Christ, it’s not a competition.”
“Lucky for y—” Remus leans in and catches Sirius’ lips. Shuts him up. Sirius is quick to deepen it.
“You know,” Sirius says, voice hoarse, and Remus smiles with the knowledge that he did that, “you can’t just kiss me now whenever you want to shut me up.”
Remus pulls back. He tucks a strand of hair that had escaped Sirius’ top knot behind his ear. He lets his hand wander down Sirius’ porcelain neck, down to his collarbone. Sirius shivers. “Watch me,” Remus says.
“I mean, not that I’m opposed t—” And Remus leans forward to kiss him again. -

Summary
They’re so close. Sirius can feel Remus’ hot, bated breath on his skin. He can see every one of Remus’ honey freckles and the white spiderwebs that course through his scar tissue. He can hear every one of Remus’ sharp inhales and shaky exhales; It’s the only sound he can hear above his own heart racing through his veins.
And his heart is doing that —racing. But it’s not like a thud, thud, thud in his chest or even a soft, fluttering sound like a warm, Irish lilt. The sound is more like a swoosh, like a pendulum swing, jumping from white-hot anticipation to cold-blooded fear and back again.
-or-
Remus is a storm blowing through Sirius’ small town and Sirius is laid out on the waterlogged cobblestone streets waiting to be washed away.

(Such a good fic, Sirius is utterly enthralled by Remus, Remus is cheeky)
“I’m Remus by the way.”
Sirius pivots back. “Yeah, I know.”
Remus quirks an eyebrow. “Asking after me, have you?”
Sirius shrugs.“I don’t really know what I’m doing here, Remus.” …
Remus tilts his head and tentatively reaches out his hand. His pinky brushes Sirius’ and when Sirius doesn't pull away he links their two fingers.
Sirius’ eyes fly to Remus’ wide and overwrought. “It’s okay,” Remus whispers.“Remus?” Sirius whispers.
“Yeah?” Remus breathes…
Sirius hesitates, the wind stills, the forest waits. “Is this a good idea?”
“Sirius Black,” Remus whispers into Sirius’ mouth, “I think this might be my best idea yet.”Remus’ mouth is on his. Remus’ hands are on his waist, his lower back, up his shirt…
When they pull away it’s with a sharp gasp. “I’m sorry,” Remus whispers, “are you—” And then Sirius is grabbing a fistful of Remus’ sweater and pulling him in and they’re kissing again. He likes kissing Remus.
In the empty Charms classroom that Remus pulls him into before breakfast, in the broom closet before and after Transfiguration, the second floor boys bathroom, over Remus’ books in the library, rolling around on the grassy knolls, pushed up against the greenhouse tool shed, and once in the middle of the hallway after hours during Remus’ prefect patrol (much to Remus’ (mostly feigned) chagrin and Sirius’ (definitely not feigned) delight).Remus smiles slyly. “You want me to meet your friends, do you?”
“Uh— yeah, I guess— or well, they already knew who you were before I did, but yeah, yeah I guess.”
“What?” Remus says, eyes dancing, “Do you have a crush on me or something?”
Sirius kicks at him.Sirius absentmindedly pushes back his cuticles. The second hand pauses, time freezes, Sirius breathes. “It’s not a girl.”
Sirius holds his breath as he looks up and studies James’ reaction, but there’s no flash of disgust, no repulse in his eyes. James looks unphased, lost in thought. “It’s not— is it me?”
Sirius grimaces. “Ew, no, definitely not.”
“Hey!” James says, throwing a pillow at him, “I take offense to that actually.”“I told James about us.”
“Us?” Remus’ eyes dance.
“Yeah.”
Remus smiles mischievously down at him. “What did you tell him? That we hang out?”
“Yeah, or, well, no. He guessed that a while ago. I told him that I— that I like you.”
Remus lets out a small laugh.
“What?” Sirius tenses.
“Nothing,” Remus smiles, dropping their clasped hands in favor of reaching out to tuck a strand of Sirius’ hair behind his ear, “I just can’t believe you told James you liked me before you told me you liked me.”
“Well, you never—” Sirius shuts his mouth, blushing at the assumption he was about to make.
Remus hums. “Good point,” he says, moving forward and walking Sirius backwards until his back hits the wall with a small thud. “Sirius Black,” Remus whispers, “I really, really like you.”
Sirius shivers all the way down to his toes.Peter sets down his drink and licks his lips. “So,” he says, “how long have you two been dating?”
Sirius spits out his drink. His stomach drops with a whoosh, the fire blinking out.
“Peter!” James cries, scandalized.
“I’m sorry. Was that not— Was that supposed to be a secret?”
“You knew?” Sirius splutters.
Peter shrugs. “Not for sure. Well, until now. But it was kinda obvious.”
“Obvious?!” James and Sirius cry at the same time.“We’re going to be late to Transfiguration.”
“Don’t care,” Remus says as he moves forward to crowd Sirius against the shelving of cleaning supplies in the second floor broom closet.
“But you’re a prefect.”
Remus rolls his eyes. He takes another step toward Sirius, closing the little space left between them. He presses against him, one leg nudging Sirius’ knees apart…“Merlin,” Sirius pants as he breaks for air, “you are a terrible prefect.”
“You never shut up, do you?” Remus ducks down to nip at Sirius’ lip as his leg nudges Sirius’ knees further apart. And Sirius whimpers, he fucking whimpers.“I can speak fluent French.”
Remus turns his head to look at him through the blades of grass between them. “That’s hot,” he says.
“Plus sexy que ton deuxième prénom?” Hotter than your middle name?
“Yeah,” Remus sighs, the blades of glass swaying with his breath, “I’m definitely gay.”It’s a few minutes before either one of them speaks, words tumbling out and over each other: “I’m a werewolf,” and, “I think I more than like you.”
Remus lets out a startled laugh. “What?”
“I more than like you,” Sirius repeats, dropping the uncertainty.
Remus bites the inside of his cheek. “Did you hear what I said?”
“Yeah.”
