Max rolls her eyes. “You’re not going to fail, you’re going to paint Mike.”
Will lifts his head up from his hands, eyes wide, and shakes his head. “You don’t understand.” He pleads with his awful, awful friends, voice low. “He’s been, he’s using my-he came out of my bathroom in just a towel last night.”

“You are not subtle at all,” Dustin mutters, throwing an arm around Will’s shoulder. “They’re pretty at least.”
Will sighs heavily, gently plucking one of the new flowers out of the ground. “If they ask, I was practicing a new spell,” he grumbles. “I don’t want to try explaining this to either of them.”
Another laugh escapes Dustin’s lips, and he squeezes Will’s shoulder gently. “Sure thing, buddy,” he reassures. “But you should talk to him. Anyone with eyes could see what you two mean to each other.”

Warmth rises to Mike’s face, and he sputters, looking at his best friend incredulously. “How did you—”
“Dustin told me what you were trying to do.” Max shrugs. “And before that, Lucas mentioned it too. And so did El. Nice going, setting her room on fire, by the way.”
Great. Apparently, every single one of his friends knows about Mike’s failed attempts to surprise Will this week. That’s just fantastic.

“Like penguins,” Mike offers, and then rests his head on Will’s shoulder like this is supposed to be helping, or something.
