John’s fingers intertwine with Arthur’s. It’s a strange sensation, the gradual, steady transfer of body heat from Arthur to John.
“I— my hands were cold,” John says, sheepish, his grip on Arthur’s hand tightens ever so slightly. “Yours look… warm.“
“Warm,” Arthur echoes, his cheeks are stained pink. John briefly wonders if they are as warm as his hand, that wonder shifts into worry. What was he thinking? His hands are cold? It’s the middle of June, there is no way Arthur believes—
“I guess that makes sense.” A small smile graces Arthur’s worn features, he squeezes John’s hand and continues walking.

Summary
His entire body was sore at first, then it was only his limbs, then only his fingers. He remembers managing to crawl out a pile of dead bodies and waddle in the streets aimlessly until someone– until his sister finds him, patches up the opened wound (that he didn't even know he had) and brings him home. A home that he didn’t even know where it was located.
That's what the start of the apocalypse looks like to him.
And now he's currently trying to figure out how to transfer several potted plants into one place. Clearly much more important matters to worry about than the collapse of society.
