Her throat is dry. She doesn’t know how to answer that. Doesn’t know what she’s supposed to say, what she’s supposed to feel.
“I don’t know,” she whispers.
Minho studies her for a long moment. Then, slowly, carefully, he reaches out, his fingertips grazing her cheek before settling against her jaw.
“Yes you do, Covey.”

He’s met with teary eyes and a good natured eye roll. “As if you would ruin that designer jacket.”
It’s his turn to scoff. “What, this old thing?” He gestures vaguely at the jacket, like it’s some bargain bin relic and not a limited-edition piece he once guarded with his life.
Though, in all honesty, there’s nothing Minho wouldn’t do for Kitty.

The heart monitor Ilya is standing next to starts beeping really quickly. “Hey, why is this going crazy? Is this normal? Should I call for the nurse?”
Shane giggles, his eyes tearing up. “No, it's not normal. But it's you, so…” He inclines his head and tucks his and Ilya's joined hands somewhere under his ear.
“It's my heart, Ilya.” He croaks, his voice painfully scratchy. He points with his other hand at the monitor that is still beeping fairly fast. “It goes crazy because of you.”

Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.
