Summary
Sirius doesn't like dead bodies. It fills him with dread and guilt. He's still full of life and warmth, while they've faded away and cold and stiff. It's a horrible feeling, to still have the ability to feel things while the people you're looking at will never again see anything.
He wants to look away, but his gaze is drawn back to the sudden movement.
The body twitches.

Summary
Erebor fell and the dragon sleeps on his hoard of gold. The scattered dwarves do not prosper under King Thrain in Ered Luin. Dwarves have few friends and fewer since the Crown Prince was lost and his younger brother assumed his duties.
Bilbo Baggins, respectable hobbit of the Shire, is travelling to Bree on behalf of the Thain, his Uncle, when he notes the dwarfish blacksmith. Curious, he realises the dwarf is a slave and on impulse, he buys him and tries to free him. But the dwarf, Thorin, has to explain that he has lost his honour and will be no longer welcome at his home. Especially when it seems that there are those who have profited from his absence...

Summary
'Alone this Yuletide? Irritated with prying and nosey family members?
I am an out of work blacksmith currently trying to make my way by any means necessary that does not involve my resorting to thievery (prisons are most uncomfortable, I've unfortunate first hand experience). However, if you would like me to be your strictly platonic companion for any social function, but have me pretend that we are in a serious courtship, so as to torment your family and ward off unwanted suitors then I am more than obliging...'
After becoming increasingly irritated by overtures of romance from various Shire residents following the death of his mother four years ago, Bilbo is more than ready to resort to desperate measures. That is, up to and including pretending to be in a serious relationship with a certain surly blacksmith currently inhabiting the Bindbale Woods.
It's a good idea after all; all they have to do is pretend to be in love over the Yuletide period and Bilbo's family and suitors will surely leave him alone after that. It's perfect! And nothing can possibly go wrong, right? Certainly nothing as preposterous as falling for one another for real...

Summary
Different diagnostic results slowly trickled through and Thorin swiped them all to different corners of the screen depending on their relevance and evidence of abnormality. He paused when a particular chart appeared and smiled to himself.
“What?” Bilbo murmured, sounding genuinely worried.
“Your heterochromia,” Thorin explained, meeting Bilbo’s green and blue gaze. “The irregular algorithm that causes it has been running for almost half a century.”
“Most mechatronics offer to fix it for me,” Bilbo said, looking away, seeming suddenly self-conscious.
“Then they’re idiots.”
