Back then, Sayaka had been surprised by the strange, yet intoxicating hum of excitement enveloping her body. She had thought that maybe it was simply a result of being in the swarmed atrium, crowded shoulder-to-shoulder with her Hyakkaou classmates, as they all witnessed a first-year crush the sitting president. It was only later — when she was walking home from school, acutely aware of her own heart beating so hard it seemed to make her breath shake — that she understood what had occurred at school, and what still persisted as her pulse droned in her ears. For the first time, Sayaka had felt desire for another person.
