Summary
"Kairi…" He could hardly find words. He was glad she was okay. He was glad everyone else was safe, and with the people they loved. He was glad for all of the journeys he had gone on since he and Kairi were first separated.
And… he was glad she hadn't been with him the whole way.
But he could never say that. It would break her heart.
So he smiled instead, a hard grin.
He's glad she's not losing herself like he is.
--
Sora and Kairi's journey is followed to its last moments.

Summary
KH but an AU where the first three games are told in a mish-mash of the plot of The Neverending Story (published 1979 and/or the 1984 film).
~
Sora leaned in close to the book, investigating the cover, since it seemed to have Riku’s attention oh-so-entranced. The words “Kingdom Hearts” were engraved on the front, written in silver lettering and a gothic font. Adorned atop the title was a curved, swirling heart that appeared to be wearing a crown."I found an old bookstore off of thirteenth street. The owner, Ansem... he didn’t seem to like me, much. When I first walked in there to hide from Seifer and Rai, he actually told me to leave.” Riku put on a pompous accent. “‘Get out! I don’t like children.’” Riku laughed at himself. “When I told him fifteen was hardly a child, he told me that only a child would act like fifteen was ‘a man grown.’ But, I thought I’d stick around anyway, since he seemed nose-deep in whatever book he was looking at. Said he was busy with research. I couldn’t help but be curious about the book he was reading. He said a bunch of crazy-sounding things about it.
"...He said the book had darkness within it. Powerful, but terrible things.”

Summary
Aren’t hearts great? Steer us wrong every time.
Sora grit his teeth in frustration, effectively snapped out of his reverie with that flash of memory. His Escarglow friend made a small sound of distress before it hid within its shell.
Sora twisted around and cast a hand out before him, fingers curling in hesitation. “No, don’t go away, just- ah… I don’t know what I’m feeling.” He held his face in his hands.
~Sora meets up with his Dream Eaters in Traverse Town following the harrowing conclusion of the Mark of Mastery exam. In the quiet of the streets met with the sound of lonely buzzing streetlamps, Sora's mind buzzes loudly with thoughts he didn't want to consider.

Summary
Appealing to fate and destiny and pleading to its assumed goodwill, Kairi held her hands clasped together.
“Please, god. I’ve never asked for much. I just don’t want to lose things anymore.”
~
Kairi thinks about what she's lost (what she's been losing).
