Balthus walked with her for the several paces from Holst’s tent to hers. Hm… He was being awfully quiet, she noted to herself. Not like him at all.
“Well, I’m off to bed,” Hilda yawned as she parted the entrance to her quarters. “What about you, Baltie? I hope you don’t go getting into any trouble…” She bit her lip in concern for her brother’s dumb best friend.
He smiled deviously. “What can I say, Hil? Getting into trouble’s just in my nature.”
She frowned and was about to ask him what he was scheming when the ground suddenly disappeared beneath her feet. -
