Months pass, yet the empty feeling of her father's absence still sickens her. Her siblings seem to be fully recovered, showing no sign of remorse. It makes sense though, as they were never as close to their father as Edith was.
Overall, Edith's mother grieved the longest and the hardest. Ever since the judge declared Mr. Caldwell guilty, she changed from a strong, admirable lady to a frail, dependent woman.
