Summary
His reactions had all been off-kilter lately—smells made him shake, sounds made him gag, the wrong fabrics made him dizzy. The trials were scrambling his DNA, bringing his demon side to the forefront and making every human reaction something a little less-than, leaving Sam feverish as he sweat it all out. Everything his body did felt unnatural, but the sickness was so real that he couldn’t help but relish in it.
The delirium wasn’t the disease—it was the cure. Sam was sure of it.

Summary
Dean held him close, the same way he did when Sam was just a baby. He rubbed his chest and cushioned his head and looked at Sam like he was worth something, and it made all of Sam's walls crumble.
“I hate hunting,” he told Dean, soft and secret. Dean's face did something complicated, like he was trying to choose an acceptable emotion to show and filing the rest away.
When John spoke, Sam jumped. “That's like saying you hate me. You hate your old man, Sammy?”
“Maybe,” Sam breathed.

Summary
Sam spent his days hunting, scouring the news for any sign of Lilith, training his powers, and doing it all at full speed, refusing to think about what he was actually doing. If he played his cards right, he could stamp down all the real thoughts, all the feelings, until they couldn’t reach him anymore. And when another popped up, screaming and biting and begging for attention, he just cocked another gun, exorcized another demon—pushed it all away.
Needless to say, he had a pretty tight handle on things.
But it was Valentine’s Day, and even though he was on his way to Ruby’s, Sam couldn’t stop thinking about Jess.

Summary
“Who are you?” Sam asked. The man’s sudden shift in demeanor was suspicious, but the enticing smell of coffee was hard to ignore. It probably wasn’t poisoned. Sam took a tiny sip, surprised to find that it was exactly how he liked it.
The man laughed humorlessly. “You’ll never believe this,” he said, “but it’s Sam. Winchester.”

Summary
Rolling a window down cooled off some of Dean's rampant adrenaline and the classic rock station cleared his mind. Soon, they would get a lead on killing Michael. Soon, they’d be able to clear out all the extra hunters in their damn house—get them kickstarted, give them their own lives to lead. Soon, Jack would lose all those dark circles under his eyes and Cas would stop hovering around Dean like he was about to disappear and Sam would be able to walk on his own without looking like he was about to tip and Dean would finally feel alone in his skin without the things Michael did playing behind his eyes like a horror movie B-roll.
But before all that, it would just be Dean fixing up Sammy, same as it’d been since the day the kid could crawl. That was a job he could do in his sleep. Come hell, high water, or just a regular old nest of vamps, there was nothing he wouldn’t save Sam from.
Dean pressed harder on the gas, praying he wouldn’t be too late.
