    Summary

A simple solo observational mission is what Dream described to you. A standard go in, monitor the general POP (Points of Positivity) of a universe and get out. And like always, you were the go to candidate for these types of missions. Dream had explained to you several times why you were the best choice for these jobs:

For one thing, you were the member of the Star Sanses who most recently lived in a standard universe. You remembered what it was like to be bound by the rules of time and space and had no real way to break them on your own.

Another reason was that you were a human, and a non-mage at that. You blended in in
almost any surface setting and had a traceable magical signature of almost zero. That meant that Nightmare's lackey’s couldn’t track your activity from timeline to timeline and interfere with your work.

And finally, and most importantly in your opinion: you were the only version of yourself in the entire multiverse.

    An anomaly.

    A rarity.

    One of a kind.

Other people might be told from the time they were children that there was no one else in the world quite like them but for you, it was literally true.

You were wholly and solely you.

    Summary

Your limbs felt like they were made of jello as you used your hands to prop yourself up, eyes darting around what seemed to be an unfinished basement. A basement you were certain you’d never seen in your entire life. Tools and papers were scattered around the room haphazardly. The blueprints tacked to the walls were illuminated only by the light coming from a singular basement well window. When you finally shifted to look behind you, your breath caught in your chest. The machine towering over you, sparking and smoking as if it had just been used, reminded you more of something from Star Trek than anything you had ever seen in real life.

What the actual fuck was going on?

    ---

When you end up being accidentally dragged through a portal into an alternate universe where magic and monsters exist, will you manage to cope with the loss of the life you once knew?
