    The tall grey-white cliffs of Sattler Quarry loom all around him, stark again the infinite blackness. Mike can see the place between cliffs where the lake shore would be; here, the water remains shallow enough his feet don’t get wet. His head spins. If he’s back at the quarry, why can’t he see anything else? And how is he unhurt? There was no miracle, no El to stop his fall.
