“There is sand in your hair,” whispered Jean Valjean, threading his fingers into that great tangled mane, which felt incredible on a bad day, and on this one made Javert’s eyes roll back into his head, and his knees weak. He clung desperately to Valjean’s shoulders, and Valjean chuckled. “That always works on you.”
“I suppose you have learned to press my buttons,” Javert breathed hungrily, and with great effort he pulled away from Valjean. “I think I must press some of your own.”
And without another word, Javert sunk down onto his knees.

“It helps,” Javert explained. He looked up at Valjean with heavy lidded eyes, the beginnings of a flush dusting his cheeks. For a moment Valjean's breathing halted–his heart started beating frantically in his chest.
He stared at Javert, unwilling to be the first to look away; while the other man licked his lips nervously before he continued.
“It reminds me of my place,” he mumbled, “and that is before you, Monsieur.”
