Summary
Jin Ling had always seen himself more as an observer than a participant.
Deep down, he felt that his body had never truly belonged to him. Those inconvenient, dissonant bones felt like a mistake, something God was responsible for correcting. Because of that, the constant sensation of being watched never left him, because deviation was not an option. There is safety in precision, in rules, in knowing exactly how far one can go. Grief reinforces this instinct, sharpening his fear of exposure until it becomes almost scholarly.
Lan Sizhui disrupts this delicate balance. He exists and lives as if fear cannot reach him, unsettling in his refusal to show proper reverence. Within his orbit, Jin Ling’s control begins to fracture, and the mechanisms that once kept him intact start to look indistinguishable from self-destruction.
Resisting Lan Sizhui begins to take more effort than giving in. The conflict ceases to be avoidable — and Jin Ling knows that any choice will come at a cost.
