or: Ethan meets a travel agent with baby blues you could drown in, and marries him. when the agent disappears and then resurfaces three years later with a cryptic e-mail, of course Ethan has to go find him. then he finds out Leon has a few secrets he didn't deign to tell him.
Leon, meanwhile, is just trying to escape the Baker family's estate, hopefully with Zoe Baker in tow. his civilian husband Ethan showing up throws a rather huge wrench into his plans.

“I wouldn't know, I only agreed to do all this about three weeks ago," Ethan said.
Leon stared. “You knew that this mission would happen since three weeks ago?”
“Huh? No, not the mission.” Ethan blinked owlishly at him. “I mean joining as a DSO agent.”
Leon choked.
“What?” Leon demanded. “Three weeks? That's not - you've been training for three weeks and they sent you on this case?”
“I've received zero training, actually,” Ethan said, looking completely nonchalant even as Leon inhaled sharply. “Well, Chris did try to show me how to properly bandage a wound, but that doesn't really matter to me.”
He then laughed, like he had just made some sort of inside joke, and Leon almost punched him.

Summary
The connections would, obviously, want to keep their hands on their research. It was not anything the BSAA was not also doing. Even a piece of the Megamycete this small could hold the history of hundreds of minds that died near it... And, apparently, grow a form for one of those minds that was still whole enough.
Therefore, Ethan Winters wakes up inside the RE9 Care Center. Believe it or not, things can continue to go downhill after an unintended resurrection.
Life changes afterwards. Ethan has to navigate living again with those he cares for most. The balance between friends, family, and a budding relationship is a tall enough order, even without The Connections hovering over their lives. Safety might look different than Ethan once imagined.
(The first few chapters will contain spoilers for the end of RE: Requiem.)
