“Hold me here.” Krista says. She wrestles Ymir’s arm from underneath her and presses their opposite palms together, wrapping her fingers around Ymir’s wrist. Ymir instinctually mimics her. It’s like a handshake, but a military one - a forearm shake. Ymir squints through the muddy darkness, searching for Krista’s face on the pillow beside her.

He misses the beach. The real beach. The current one is mostly soil with a lacy veneer of nuclear ash, clammy and streaky and hilariously radioactive, which is a real bummer when he thinks about it too hard. But the twenty-five meter sea level rise that came when all the freshwater ice finished melting around the mid-century mark ate away at the shoreline, rolled in between the skyscrapers on a new tide, swallowed up all the people who couldn't afford to move anywhere else. Have you seen the rent rates lately?
And then John accidentally'd the entire nuclear stockpile of the planet Earth.

Dahlia is gone, Maya is free, the day is (mostly) saved. So Phoenix and Miles have a talk.
“And Gumshoe says that Iris won’t be transferred until the end of the week, so I can go see her tomorrow,” Phoenix goes on. “He and Maggey are apparently thinking of taking a trip out to Vegas, too, once all the loose ends from this get tied up.”
Miles hears how this conversation is going, and smiles easily. There’s a certain pleasure in talking with Phoenix about other people’s problems.
“Is that what I am, then?” he asks, a little teasing in the dim bronze light, “Your last loose end?”
