When Alicent lowered her gaze to Joffrey, she read no reproach in the little boy's eyes, merely innocent curiosity. Why weren't they friends anymore? There had been so much pain, so many elements beyond her control that had led to this situation that Alicent had never clearly dared ask herself the question, as if the answer couldn't possibly be simple anyway. And yet the words came to her naturally, like a breath too long held in her lungs.

Summary
Lottie Matthews has never really considered herself "normal" - at least, not by society's standards, or her parents' standards. Not when she's always seen and felt things other people didn't, things she wasn't supposed to see - things nobody was supposed to see, really. Still, though, she tries to act as "normal" as she can, and, for the most part, it's pretty convincing, even if she does this for the sake of her own peace of mind instead of truly believing there’s something inherently wrong about her.
Then she gets bitten by a particularly unique spider, and the whole thing gets way more complicated than it had any right to be.
