Summary
“I’m sorry,” Aziraphale says, so light and so gentle and so quiet. It’s like he has just broken the glass—or like he thinks it has already been broken, at the very least—and he is trying so hard to pick up even just one piece.
“I am—so, so sorry,” he says, a million different things in those words, and his voice comes out a bit cracked. Crowley looks at him, into those eyes that he knows so well, and he says nothing. He’s not sure if he should. He looks at him, and he can feel a fresh tear roll down his cheek.
Sometimes, things can't quite be made completely whole again, right in that moment. Perhaps that is when you try to pick up even just one, singular piece.
