"Getting back to how they used to be has become the mantra in the Langdon household, as much a condemnation as an aspiration. The words fall out of Abby almost compulsively at the slightest hint of disagreement, ready and correcting. Frank doesn’t bother pretending he doesn’t know what it means.
His second chance is a last chance for more than a few people.
Frank scrubs a hand over his face, trying to convince himself to turn the key in the ignition. To start the car, to go home and perform like he promised he would. And just like he has every day for the past two weeks, his mind turns down an increasingly familiar path instead.
