Summary
Young cousins Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng marry into the affluent Lan Family irrespective of their mutual differences. Wei Ying's mother-in-law, the apparently strict Madam Lan, then transforms him into an assertive man, who then goes on to become a powerful family matriarch.
Witness the lives of these two cousins after their respective marriages within the household of the Lan family and how they take on the challenges of married life and the responsibilities that come with it.
Although being an illiterate and an orphan, Wei Ying impresses his mother-in-law with his simplicity, willingness to help everyone and his never-ending urge to learn the ways of the household, while lazy Jiang Cheng tries to sabotage all of Wei Ying's hard work.
In time, Jiang Cheng regrets what he did to Wei Ying and makes amends. Both cousins then run the household together. This is a tale revolved around the Lan family and explores the morals and values of a typical joint family (extended family).
