    Summary

Short and simple as Kristoph’s greeting was, but meaning everything in the world. Meaning that Klavier would always have his big brother to run to: that he would always walk down the hall into his bedroom, and climb into bed with the sound of his voice. This was far from the first time. But it was the first time that he had never gotten a message back eventually, after some matter of minutes, or maybe hours, depending on the day. Always chiding him for calling so incessantly, like a child clinging onto his leg. But always letting him do it, again and again, and only asking what was wrong.

    Klavier Gavin has a nightmare.

    Summary

Phoenix Wright sprawled out on the couch in the Wright Anything Agency lobby, one arm slung over the back of it, and the other grasping loosely a wine-red bottle of grape juice. Two more lay at his feet, one already empty, the last of it bleeding from the neck onto the hardwood floor. As his head turned, and his dark eyes fell on Klavier, he simply smiled.

By all accounts, Klavier Gavin was decidedly not having a good day.

In the aftermath of the court case that brought down Kristoph Gavin, Phoenix once again meets Prosecutor Gavin for a small conversation.

    Summary

When Trucy said she was practicing a new magic trick she promised he was going to like, he certainly wasn’t expecting her to pull a client out of her hat. Or, hopefully not literally his client… With a soft sigh of relent, and a small shrug for good measure, Apollo reached inside. Fingers scraped around the bottom of the felt lining below until he felt something slide underneath his grasp. Fishing it out revealed a single slip of torn-up notebook paper, creased down the middle. The message written inside in an inky scrawl was unmistakable. It was Prosecutor Gavin’s signature.

Apollo’s eyebrows flew up high across his hairline, mouth nearly hanging open as he cried, “Gavin? You’re not seriously telling me Gavin is—”

“That’s right! He’s your recipient for the cross-courtroom gift exchange!”

Apollo Justice is unwillingly entered into a gift exchange, organized by Phoenix and Trucy Wright, for employees of the Wright Anything Agency and the Prosecutor’s Office. And, just his luck, he draws none other than his charming courtroom rival, Klavier Gavin. Only trouble is, he has no idea what to get him.

    Summary

But instead he was here, having coaxed his company into the passenger seat of his very own car and driven him home, hanging off his shoulder as they made it to the front door. He was here, having assured a tireless Trucy that her father was just a bit under the weather, but well taken care of, only to turn afterward and find him crawling on the floor like the cockroach that he was. And he was here. On the dirty bathroom floor. Spectating as a man spewed his guts out for so long now that he had lost track of the time. It would be a better use of his time to hold Wright’s head under the water until every sound scraping at his ears finally stopped. What a shame.

The line of keeping one’s enemy close has long since begun to blur. It isn’t until one drunken night that Kristoph Gavin faces that sobering fact.

    Summary

Another minute ticked away, and he blew a frustrated gust of air. Nah, he didn’t really care about that. It was the quiet. Just Wocky, the expansive display of baked goods, the empty tables lining the walls, and the clock. He hated quiet; watching his father for all his life, he had learned that it spoke for danger. A dark, exposed area hiding armed attackers on all sides, waiting to ambush. And this time, the attackers were all up in his head. Quiet meant there was nothing to keep his mind off the only thing it had been on for the past few weeks—months, maybe.

That Wocky was not, and could no longer call himself, a man.

On a particularly slow day at the Kitaki bakery, Wocky, left alone to run the shop for a while, runs into Klavier Gavin. Except, Wocky has been thinking about some things lately— things that his parents just can’t understand, no matter how supportive they are. So he has some cross-examination questions of his own for Klavier Gavin... Who better to talk gender with than the woman that nearly put you in prison?

    Summary

Klavier was told, when he was younger, that he looked like his mother. / Mercifully, Kristoph could not remember the last time someone remarked that he looked just like his father. / His reflections weren’t his reflections anymore.

There is something about family that lingers with you, always. Throughout their lives, Klavier and Kristoph both knew it to be true.

    Summary

“Fiery attorney Phoenix Wright burned in court,” one brief, but no less dramatic headline cried as Klavier scrolled through his notifications with a single ringed thumb. For every title he swept away with an eye roll, it only took a second for another to replace it. His brother once called journalists like these, rather pretentiously, “the hydra of the mindless media.” But his brother had probably never seen a scandal quite like yesterday morning.

Klavier faces the aftermath of State v. Gramarye.

    Summary

The tension in the air was palpable. The prosecutor and defending attorney, facing off outside the courtroom before trial even began. Admittedly, he had never once met any of his opposing counsel before they stormed through the doors; he couldn’t imagine they would have met him with any more warmth than he received now. But Phoenix wasn’t one to care much for rivalries— not on his side of things, anyway, and most certainly not with children, so he figured he ought to break the ice for a decent first impression. As he straightened the briefcase hanging now by his hip, he cracked a sheepish smile, and waved.

    They did not wave back.

Phoenix meets the young Prosecutor Gavin and his brother for a small conversation before court begins.

    Summary

Phoenix knew that little Trucy Gramarye had suffered a lot of horrible life changes in these past few months— if he could be so humble as to admit it, so had he. From the disappearance of her father to her rehousing here with Phoenix, right as he lost his income, apartment, and relationships all around. And though she was, certainly, one of the strongest children he ever knew, that being quite the achievement, he wasn’t sure how much more he could take, personally. One small little snowball could be just the thing to swipe him off his feet, barreling into another icy valley below. And that snowball seemed to be inevitably approaching down the incline by the day, as Phoenix contemplated and considered and racked his brain… How does one tell such a brilliant little girl that her new Papa wasn’t, in more ways than one, always… Papa?

Phoenix resolves to tell Trucy the truth about himself. Only trouble is, he has no idea how.

    Summary

“Don’t you have, like, perfect genetics? What are you even allergic to?” Apollo rolled his eyes and hopped over Mikeko to the other side of the bed, where the other hovered nervously. Walking closer, he gently reached up a hand to cup Klavier’s face, running a thumb over flushed brown skin, burning far before the tint of blush began to seep into her cheeks. On any other occasion, it would be sweet how she still swooned over such a simple gesture.

With a crooked smile, Klavier cast her eyes aside. A hand hesitantly reached to tuck one piece of hair behind a decorated ear as she murmured, “Oysters?”

When Apollo wakes up to find Klavier falling ill, he jumps to take care of her— even if she pretends not to need it.

    Summary

Almost a year had passed since that fateful April day, and somehow, he hadn’t changed for a second. Long, sharpened nails scratched against the fabric as he dragged both cards to his side. Head cocked, light blond eyelashes batting innocently from behind his paper defenses, he began, “I hear your precious Miles Edgeworth has returned after all these years.”

    Summary

But Kristoph brought a coffee cup from the office, and he walked by Klavier’s side and stopped when he did, and held it out as he admired the seashells littering the ground like he was a child, all over again. No matter how he bemoaned the location, or the weather, or the act of collecting seashells at all, Kristoph loved him as he carried Klavier’s so intolerably dirty shells. So Klavier made certain to find enough worth carrying.

One can say many things with a few simple seashells, as brothers Klavier and Kristoph share a simple stroll along the coastline.

    Summary

His eyes flitted down to meet the dark ones beneath him, wide and sparkling in the summer sun, but also with the plea to stay a little longer. The unabashed adoration trained only on him, the desperation with which he clung to Kristoph like a child, sparked embers in his chest, rising to his cheeks inevitably if he weren’t too careful. He glanced at the bedside clock.

Months ago, Phoenix Wright met Kristoph Gavin in the District Court basement library in his third year of university. They were different people, then.
