All of Scotland Yard stares. They make a strange sight indeed, a drunken doctor accompanied by a woman who looks exactly like his dead wife.
“John?” Lestrade manages incredulously. He takes in the woman- blonde hair, red coat, glittering white nails, heavy makeup, face partially covered by a mask. It’s flu season, he reasons.
“Les-lestrade,” John stutters with a silly grin. “I came here to tell you…tell you we won’t be needing cases anymore. Sherlock’s…gone.”

He hasn’t talked to Sherlock outside the bedroom since that first night. Today, though, when Sherlock painstakingly makes John’s favourite breakfast- eggs benedict- he smiles delightedly and kisses his cheek. “Thanks, Mary.”
The first sign of delusion.
