Summary
“Wow,” she breathes. She feels like someone has taken her heart and squeezed it.
“Is it too much?” Gloria runs her hand through her hair and it sweeps itself, the way hair always does, into a more even part. “I don’t know…” She turns to look at herself in the mirror, debating.
“It’s perfect,” Barbie dispels. Her face feels warm, and she is nearly gaping. “You look absolutely stunning. Is it for a work event?”
“Um,” Gloria shakes her head, a little awkwardly. “N-not exactly, no…”
“Oo, okay.” Barbie says. “So what’s the occasion?”
Gloria turns to look at her, and seems quite small, all of a sudden, as she fiddles with her hands. Her lips part, the way they did this morning, Barbie thinks. The way she has been seeing it over and over again, the way it has been making her light-headed and delighted. The words form, and then they fall, and Gloria says—
“I’m going on a date.”
Oh.
