Duncan shoves it off, hears a twin crack and more laughter as it knocks into the pillar. He takes a step back, dizzy and breathing hard. “Stop that.”
“Oh but how could I,” the Trickster asks, “the smell of you, all tangled up and confused, so sweet.”

Summary
It’s late enough when the knock comes that it sets off alarm bells in Duncan’s head. Dusk had come and gone and left for proper night, he’s only still here because he's close to done and would rather be up late than continue dealing with the stack of papers tomorrow.
The concern proves right when he opens the door to a terrified Darana Opalkeeper all but outright carrying Brecken Bittersweet. Both of them wet, Darana soaked in Shadow and blood, Brecken in a mix of the two and what Duncan recognizes as water from the Solar well of the Fountain.
