Summary
Root has this annoying habit of nearly getting herself killed on every other job. After her most recent mission, the Machine orders her to take at least a month off, in order to fully recover. Because she’s a wandering vagrant on the best of days and a borderline-psychotic flake on the worst, she doesn’t exactly have very many options for places to crash. Shaw (reluctantly) agrees to let her stay in her apartment. At the very least, she figures, they haven’t seen each other properly in a while and the sex marathon Shaw has been planning for going on a month and a half now is sure to be a good one (once Root is healed enough, that is.)
So imagine her surprise when a precocious fourteen-year-old shows up outside her front door with a suitcase in tow and a curious expression on her face.

Ava hears that once, passing some brunch place on her way home with a fresh loaf of bread in hand, sure steps heading back to their apartment where she’s hoping to convince Bea they don’t have to keep putting off Ava’s dream of a homemade bread bowl.
Okay, maybe what she hears is Saturdays are for the boys and maybe it’s from a bunch of guys with biceps the size of their heads. But she likes it enough to remember it as she strolls the rest of the way home so she can tell Beatrice.

Yes, Ava likes girls (and boys). Yes, she has no trouble acknowledging when a girl is pretty, or hot, or both. Yes, horny is one of her few default mindsets. But to be fair, she’s twenty-two and very new at this. Girls, boys, romance, sex. Life. So what if she chose her personal trainer because she let out a loud “hot damn!” when she saw her picture online, along with all the martial arts she has mastered? What if she let instinct choose rather than reason? Who hasn’t? So, yeah. Let her have this, okay? Plus, she’s just looking. Discreetly. She thinks. And Beatrice does seem like she’s a great trainer, considering all the reviews Ava read about her.
