Summary
“Oh, fuck you,” Roman says, not maliciously. He looks down at the ground and buries the toe of his shoe in the sand. “I just… like, I missed you guys? Is that a crime?”
Shiv feels tears spring to her eyes, feels something heavy in her esophagus. She clears her throat, blinks back the hot tears brimming in her eyes.
“Mhm,” she says, “Yeah. Federal punishment.”
Kendall nods, solemn. “Death by firing squad.”

Summary
Kendall wished he could envision any reality besides this Sisyphean one, any course of action besides leaping to his feet and running back up the hill that his father had just pushed him down. He was quiet for a moment, then added, “It’s hard to believe that Dad is so good at jerking our chains that it took us forty years to realize he was never planning on giving it to any of us."
Shiv held up a hand. “Thirty-four.”
“Thirty-six,” Roman muttered.
“I figured that one out in tenth grade,” Stewy said. They all looked at him in surprise, and he shrugged. “The benefit of an outside perspective.”

Summary
Her first thought is, grow up. After the blow-up, she thought every white boy with shaggy black hair was him; she was paranoid, she saw his face in cracks on the sidewalk, when she looked at trees the wrong way. She went back to New York for her summer of eating, and even though he was upstate and it was five years later, she just thought, he’s going to know I’m here, he’s going to feel it, God’s going to come to him in a dream and send him to me so he can call me a selfish bitch.

Summary
“Promise me you’ll come. Eventually. Just…come see me. Sit still with me for a while.” He holds back everything else he wants to say. Get a place with me. Run the shop with me. Laugh and make dinner with me. Let me wake up next to you every morning and not have to worry if I’m never going to see you again.
“I promise.” Boris says it like it was already obvious, something that didn’t even need to be said. “Of course I promise.”
