The wrapping paper tore under his fingers, crumpled to the floor. A sleek white box gleamed up at him, the bitten-apple logo smug in the fluorescent light. Christmas. Expensive.
“See? Worth every yen,” Mitsuki said, arms crossed, sharp grin cutting across the room. “We don’t waste money in this house. You’ll make it pay off.”
Masaru patted him on the back, gentler, proud. “For your future, Katsuki.”
The box felt heavy, though the laptop inside was light. Heavy with expectation, heavy with the weight of every hour of training, every test, every achievement piled on him like bricks.
He forced the grin. “Of course. Only fitting for me.” He let Mitsuki laugh, let Masaru smile. He should have felt happiness, excitement. Instead, a pit formed in his stomach.
That night, 3AM, blue light painting his face, fingers flying over the keys, another essay churned out. Hard work and talent. Hard work and talent. That’s what a Bakugou is.
Bakugou and Toga are siblings. Angst ensues.
