Summary
Shauna hesitated, then said, “Okay, this might be dumb.”
“That’s my favorite kind of sentence,” Jackie murmured.
Shauna climbed fully onto the bed, settling behind Jackie and gently tugging her back so Jackie was resting against her chest. She wrapped her arms around Jackie’s middle, loose and careful, like she’d bolt at the first sign of protest.
“Tell me if this is weird,” Shauna said quickly. Jackie’s brain short-circuited. Shauna’s heartbeat was steady behind her. Her chin brushed Jackie’s temple. Warmth radiated everywhere they touched.
“This is not weird,” Jackie said immediately, then winced. “I mean. It is. But—don’t stop.”
Shauna relaxed, arms tightening just a fraction. “Okay.”
Jackie gets sick after soccer practice. Shauna takes care of her. They are definitely NOT harboring any unsaid feelings for each other. Why would you ask that?

Summary

Summary
It doesn’t help that the girl in the driver’s seat is wearing Shauna’s face.
Wearing it wrong.
She has Shauna’s big brown eyes, but they’re always narrowed. Always meaner, always making Jackie feel like she’s being sliced open. She has Shauna’s pouty mouth, too, but she likes to sneer and smirk and show her teeth like an apex predator on the hunt. The slope of her nose is familiar, a perfect carbon copy smudged by a scar in the middle from sophomore year when she head-butted a senior so hard his glasses broke for tripping Shauna in the cafeteria line.
Jackie’s spent so much time looking at that face over the years—looking at Shauna—that she could graph the perfect curve of her jaw if she were any good at math. She prefers history, likes the old stories that explain why the world is the way it is today, but she does not like the history she shares with the girl who wears Shauna’s face.
.
It’s the curse of twins, Jackie supposes: one ripe and the other rotten, both unwilling or unable to separate.

Summary
"She’s different now, honey. There’s something—I don’t know what happened out there, but she’s not the same as you remember. Just don’t take it personally."
Deb’s words rattle around Jackie’s skull as she stands outside the hospital room. The plain wooden door seems to mock her. Why can’t she grab it? Why is she just standing there?
"She’s not the same as you remember."
Jackie's appendix ruptures the morning she's supposed to board the plane to Nationals. The flight never makes it to Seattle. Two years later, rescuers find the team alive, and Jackie thinks her nightmare is finally ending. Except the Shauna that returns to their hometown is not the same as the one who left.
