Midnight assigned a simple creative homework assignment to Class 1-A, one she gives each year and to all classes she teaches: all students have two weeks time to write a story about quirk discrimination, and consequently, also prejudices connected to it.
It always has shown her who had more knowledge on it, and who was more unaware of quirk discrimination. Not only that, but it also shows who had experienced quirk discrimination or who had at least witnessed it.
It's a way for Midnight to see who might need help. So she was already prepared to send some students to Hound Dog for some counselling if needed.
She knew what to expect after years of giving this assignment. But all of that doesn't matter as she reads through Midoriya's handed in assignment. Nothing could have prepared her nor her two friends for what Midoriya had written about.
