Summary
Flowers were rare on the Ground. But the pollution played one hell of a joke on anyone that dared catch feelings hard enough. It wasn’t super common in the safe zones anymore, but the flower disease was at least known about. The only upside was it was curable. Barely.
Either, option one; the other had to love the sufferer back.
Option two; You had to have it removed and suffer being possibly unable to form connections again.There was also option three.
Dying.
TLDR: Zanka catches hanahaki disease and deals with it in the way you expect from Zanka Nijiku.

Zanka’s ears burn.
“And why should I listen to you again? Did you forget what I can do to you anytime I want?” He rises on his shaky arms, legs still numb, yet defiant as ever. “A filthy raider scum like you is just dirt under my feet. You should be worshipping me for allowing you to breath near me.”
Jabber’s eyes narrow.

Summary
Hanahaki disease: they said that the more you love someone, the more you are at risk of catching it. Nobody knew when it first appeared; was it the fault of a Giver's power, or did flowers simply find a new way to grow now that the ground wasn't able to welcome them anymore?
He only knew that the first time it happened to him, Zanka was thinking seriously about taking his own life upon seeing a purple flower on the floor after he coughed painfully.
How was it possible to love someone that you deeply hated?
Or, Jabber didn't digest very well that Zanka was about to die for such a stupid reason, and was ready to do everything to save him, even if the man himself didn't wish for that.
