Young Ben adored his mother. She was soft and kind and always paused to pick him up, to hold him close. He always felt safe with her and he knew that she loved him more than anything else in the whole galaxy.

Young Hux admired his father. Brendol Hux instantly commanded respect, even as a toddler Hux saw how men and women bowed to his father’s force of will. Hux always kept his eyes open to carefully watch and learn. It was important that he be able to see and understand.

Hux and Ren hate each other at first sight. Strong-willed and ambitious, they are unable to react any other way, no matter that the Supreme Leader engineered their hatred. Their bitter rivalry will only end when one (or both) of them are dead. -

Summary
They fought in choreographed synchronicity that was beautiful to behold. Ren was all flash and flamboyancy with his lightsaber as he moved in arcs and widening circles carefully avoiding the man at his back. Behind him Hux was all precise footwork and sophisticated movements that were a perfect counterpoint to Ren’s flashier moves.
Perhaps events would have gone differently had anyone guessed that Hux was Force-sensitive. Perhaps not. These two had always been unpredictable when together.

“I had thought you might prefer to hear my plans for a new Empire,” Hux almost whispered. It was a risk, not only divulging such thoughts but trusting that Ren’s rooms weren't under surveillance. The barb struck home, Ren’s hands lifted and grabbed Hux’s biceps and he squeezed hard. Shock was written across Kylo’s features and Hux could see as Kylo processed the implications.
“You. I don't know if you're brilliant or insane,” it was softly said with a touch of awe.
